Abstract


This IDC Survey covers data from IDC's Retail Media Network Survey conducted in May 2023. The document provides the results and analysis from a global survey focused in North America and Europe across 224 retail leaders. Respondents span across all retail subvertical categories and company sizes with 250+ employees. The poll was designed to understand retail media networks (RMNs), players in the retail media space, the buyer view for retail media, services required/needed for retail media networks, and delivery of retail media network capabilities by vendors and players in the market. Specific questions focused on establishing growth of RMNs, development and operations, the retail media business model, and the impact and focus on data used by RMNs for advertising purposes. Also included in the survey were questions tying retail media to multimodal distribution such as livestreaming, CTV, and a broader media (and entertainment) set with potential marketing overlaps.

"Retail media continues to grow rapidly, but the nuances and constraints that retailers face are not atypical to other technology solutions. The growth trend means a real shift in how retailers will engage their critical first-party data when engaging brands and advertisers," said Ananda Chakravarty, VP research, IDC Retail Insights.
