Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight analyzes the importance of conversational applications as a use case for generative AI. Generative AI is a branch of computer science involving unsupervised and semi-supervised algorithms that enable computers to create new content by using previously created content, such as text, audio, video, images, and code in response to short prompts. Conversational applications, like chatbots, digital assistants, or voice assistants, are applications that use technologies such as automatic speech recognition, text to speech, machine learning, natural language processing, and natural language generation to understand human input, carry on conversations, and perform actions or complete tasks. This IDC Survey Spotlight is based on data from IDC's Executive CIO Quick Poll conducted in February 2023. This question surveyed 92 respondents from a variety of industries around the world.
