Abstract

This IDC Perspective looks at OpenText's intent to acquire major software provider Micro Focus for around $6 billion recently.

As organizations shift to digitization and agile processes in the context of hybrid work environments, automation for software and business development becomes even more vital. IDC has seen a series of acquisitions over recent months and earlier for DevOps, value stream management (VSM), DevSecOps, and other related areas. This IDC Perspective analyzes a recent example of OpenText's intent to acquire Micro Focus, which was announced 3Q22 and is expected to close in 1Q23.

"We advise organizations to remain engaged and educated as this and other M&A activity occur and evolve," said Melinda Ballou, research director for IDC's Agile ALM, Quality, and Portfolio Strategies service. "DevOps, DevSecOps, VSM, analytics, and cloud execution across these environments are business-critical areas of focus for all organizations, given the need for software quality, velocity, and business success; continue to invest in and adopt core process, organizational change and interweave effective automation as the market for automation tools across these areas continues to consolidate and transform."
