Abstract

This IDC study represents a vendor assessment of the machine translation (MT) software market through the IDC MarketScape model. This assessment discusses both quantitative and qualitative characteristics that provide guidance about machine translation software vendors and their offerings. The evaluation is based on a comprehensive and rigorous framework that assesses vendors relative to the criteria and to one another, and it highlights the factors expected to be the most influential for success in the market in both the short term and the long term.

"Any organization operating in a multilingual environment needs to be able to quicky translate large volumes of content and communications in order to be effective," said Hayley Sutherland, research manager, Conversational AI and Knowledge Discovery at IDC. "While this work was traditionally done by human translators, as the need for translation at scale has grown and technology has improved, machine translation software is increasingly being used to help improve speed and consistency while reducing costs in the translation process."
