Abstract

This IDC PeerScape provides life science and healthcare executives with an understanding of the challenges faced in implementing generative AI to improve customer and clinician experience and accelerate drug discovery, provides examples of how these industries have tackled these challenges, and finally provides guidance for organizations to address these challenges.

"Generative AI is unexplored territory. Everyone wants to be a fast follower, yet very few will lead the way. But the opportunities it offers to the life science and healthcare industries are huge, and one cannot afford to play safe and turn a blind eye. From accelerating drug discovery to transforming the patient experience, generative AI will disrupt status quo across the value chain," says Dr. Nimita Limaye, research VP, Life Sciences R&D Strategy and Technology at IDC.

"Generative AI is rapidly evolving from a capability and potential use case perspective," said Jennifer Eaton, research director, Value-Based Health Digital Strategies at IDC. "Creating a well-vetted, strategic generative AI road map that considers short- and long-term value propositions and prioritizes key stakeholder transparency and building of trust will bolster the amount of value derived from scaled insights and AI investments."
