Mobile Phone Pricing Index Shows Slight Growth in Average Advertised Pricing, According To IDC’s Mobile Phone Pricing Index

NEEDHAM, Mass., August 29, 2024 – The International Data Corporation (IDC) has released its latest findings on mobile phone pricing, indicating that the average advertised pricing continues to follow a downward trend globally. Between August 2023 and August 2024, IDC found that while average pricing continues to decline, there was a modest recovery in recent months.

Over the past six months, the pricing trend exhibited negative growth, with decreases ranging from -0.0% to -2.0%. After a significant dip to -2.0% in March 2024, prices rebounded slightly, showing a growth of 0.05% in August compared to the previous month.

Regionally, despite the global average showing slight growth, many regions halted their downward pricing trends. PRC reported the highest growth at 2.7%, followed by Japan at 2.3% and the APeJC at 1.1%. In contrast, the USA experienced the largest decline at 2.9%, with Canada, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, and the Middle East and Africa seeing smaller declines of 0.6%, 0.8%, 0.2%, and 0.7%, respectively.

Among the top five vendors—Apple, Samsung, OPPO, vivo, and Xiaomi—all showed an upward trend in their average advertised pricing compared to the previous month. Vivo and Xiaomi saw the most significant increases, while the changes for Apple, OPPO, and Samsung were more moderate.
