Abstract
This IDC Tech Buyer Survey Spotlight, which presents data from IDC's September 2024 Future Enterprise Connectivity Survey, shows that enterprises continue to rely on a broad footprint of technology providers for connectivity, but the largest share see their cloud provider and leveraging cloud infrastructure as strategic imperatives for businesses to stay connected and achieve scalability, agility, and cost efficiency.
21% of enterprises worldwide are choosing cloud service providers; APAC leads with 23%, followed by North America with 20% and Europe with 19%. However, 19.4% of North American enterprises stated they rely on their telecommunications service provider, ranking them almost on par with their cloud provider partners. This parallels the evolutionary path that top telecom operators like AT&T, Verizon, and Lumen are taking, by turning opportunities into profitable ventures, identifying their respective strengths, and reimaging themselves as technology companies and transforming from telcos into techcos.
The data in this IDC Tech Buyer Survey Spotlight is sourced from IDC's Future Enterprise Connectivity Survey, capturing connectivity technology priorities, networking challenges, and investment expectations from 751 enterprise decision-makers worldwide across 19 countries and 18 vertical industries.
