Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation takes a look at the 1Q24 macroeconomic indicators that impact enterprise IT and connectivity spending. Data shows that recessionary concerns in North America have diminished, with only 28% of enterprises expecting a downturn in 2024. Worldwide, 88% of enterprises expect to maintain or grow IT budgets, showing resilience even as Europe and APAC still see recessionary concerns.

As enterprises remain optimistic in their outlook for IT and digital transformation, technology spending areas most positively affected by increasing investments in GenAI in the next 18 months vary significantly by company size. To date, GenAI is having a significantly larger impact on connectivity road maps in EMEA and APAC, whereas half of North American businesses see minimal to no impact to date.

Looking externally, 38% of enterprises rank AI strategy and maturity assessment as a top 2 priority in considering their relationships with technology and service providers, with policy development and staffing evolutions ranked a close second and third. This highlights the importance of the technology community having a consistent and broad-reaching AI message for their customers and prospects today, even if it is still early in the technology life cycle.
