Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation provides business and technology leaders guidance regarding the most effective deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) in their cybersecurity programs. The guide offers enterprises actionable insight for establishing use cases that deliver the highest business value. Leaders will find ways to address novel risks, assess vendor offerings, collect the most relevant data and analytics, and appropriately evaluate the performance of AI in the context of the wider organizational cybersecurity framework.

The document also emphasizes the importance of data connectivity and quality for successful AI implementations. While AI security tools generally perform better with more data, their effectiveness rests on collecting and using data that is high quality and relevant. IDC finds most enterprises only analyze a fraction of their relevant data, significantly reducing their ability to get ahead of risks and threats before they become major incidents.

"AI in security is not new. It has long been used for analytics purposes," says Chris Tozzi, adjunct research advisor for IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "However, new forms of AI — notably, generative AI — offer novel opportunities for identifying and tackling cybersecurity threats more efficiently and effectively."
