Abstract
This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation looks at strategic infrastructure investment decisions. Digital infrastructure encompasses computing and storage resources deployed across public cloud, dedicated datacenters, colocation, and hosting sites, as well as edge locations. This infrastructure provides fundamental capabilities that are required by almost every business process and digital initiative, including AI programs.
A recent analysis of data from over 1,000 decision-makers worldwide, as captured by IDC's 2024 Worldwide Digital Sentiment Survey, examines linkages between digital infrastructure investments and levels of business outcome improvement experienced by organizations around the world. This research shows strong correlations between investments in infrastructure and important business outcomes including faster innovation, improved time to market, improved customer experience, and reductions in business risk. Looking at self-reported levels of improvement for 12 business outcome categories, the top quarter of organizations averaged 20% higher levels of annual improvement than the rest of the mainstream market. A comparison of these digital infrastructure maturity leaders versus the mainstream market uncovers a pattern of investments that collectively enable organizations to operate more efficiently and with greater agility.
The research summarized in this IDC Tech Buyer Presentation identifies critical infrastructure decisions related to architecture, operating models, governance, security, and data that collectively can set an organization apart. For tech buyers that are struggling to build a business case to support important infrastructure investments, the assessment framework provided in this presentation will help support strategic infrastructure investment decisions.
