Abstract

This IDC study quantifies the U.S. single-function printer and multifunction peripheral market opportunities in detail, analyzing issues, trends, and product advances in these markets. Unit shipments, value of shipments, and average selling value (ASV) information is presented. Data for 2018–2023 is actual, whereas data for 2024–2028 is projected.

"In 2023, the printer and MFP market emerged from two years of supply shortages into a weak device market in the United States, as businesses and consumers consider purchasing decisions more carefully in light of an uncertain economy. This economic weakness is expected to persist through at least the first half of 2024. As the economy recovers, slight growth is expected in 2025, after which the market will return to a long-term declining trajectory. However, longer-term growth opportunities remain in targeted market segments, particularly for vendors whose offerings target the needs of specific industry verticals or cater to the requirements of a hybrid workforce." — Geoffrey Wilbur, research manager, Imaging, Printing, and Document Solutions at IDC
