Abstract
This IDC Perspective examines the role of colocation providers in enabling direct cloud connectivity for enterprises. In an era defined by the move to cloud and multicloud, dispersal of users and applications, automation, and growth of data, the demand for direct cloud connections has become a powerful enabler of enterprise's IaaS networking strategy. Organizations are implementing these connectivity services for greater accessibility to data and workloads across different cloud environments.
"Colocation providers are integral to an enterprise's journey of cloud connectivity. They play the role of 'middle cloud' for enterprises by enabling simplified access to, within, and across cloud environments. Their ability to facilitate direct connections underscores their vital role in streamlining the path to the cloud. As organizations start their journey toward cloud-centric networking, they need to include IaaS networking and connectivity services in their overall cloud strategies," said Taranvir Singh, research manager, IDC's Cloud Networking Services CIS.
