Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation provides IDC's Future IT Blueprint. This blueprint provides a quick situational overview and actionable guidance for using generative AI (GenAI) to improve your organization's productivity, efficiency, and profitability without falling prey to its many challenges and risks.

Generative artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, uses large language models to process and generate natural language responses. While generative AI can produce many such benefits, it also comes with risks like incorrect information or inadvertent plagiarism.

"Generative AI represents a sea change similar to personal computers (PCs) in the 1980s and smartphones in the mid-2000s," says Daniel Saroff, group vice president, Consulting and Research at IDC. "And similar to PCs and smartphones, the issue to be addressed is not if staff is permitted to use these tools, but rather how to rationally manage and guide their use."

By establishing clear guidelines and policies on the permissible use of ChatGPT, organizations can mitigate its risks and ensure that its use aligns with the company's values and objectives.

IDC's Future IT Blueprints chart a map for your most important technology initiatives.
