Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines worldwide media company plans for transitioning to the cloud. In the media industry's transition to cloud services there has been a lot of trial and error including speculation regarding where media companies stand regarding adoption considering the many streaming services that have reported poor financial performance. Other questions are regarding what components of the business cycle are being prioritized between media and business operations, production, distribution, and monetization.

While the United States is ahead in migration to cloud services, globally it has yet to materialize at the same rate for various reasons that we discuss within this IDC Survey Spotlight. One primary reason is the lack of a cohesive strategy and business plan whereby all parties including technology vendors agree on a comprehensive business cycle total-cost-of-ownership model in alignment with the media company's business goals, risk/reward responsibilities, vision, and road map.
