Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight focuses on what technologies are most important when considering a potential cloud services provider. Increasingly, hospitality and travel enterprises describe cloud services providers as the most valuable partners for innovation. Aligning with this sentiment, investments in cloud services are driven by the desire to have access to the latest technology and to support digital transformation strategies.

Hotels, restaurants, and travel organizations continue to increase investments in cloud and look to support data-heavy and automation initiatives. IDC's April 2023 Industry CloudPath Survey (hospitality n = 175) reveals investment plans and strategies surrounding cloud. According to the survey, 55% of hospitality providers say that AI is the top technology factor driving cloud services provider selection and 52% prioritize IoT.

"The benefits of AI and IoT technology have been proven with growing use cases in hospitality and travel," Dorothy Creamer, research manager, Hospitality and Travel Digital Transformation Strategies at IDC, says. "Having access to data and connected systems through the cloud is mission critical for hotels, restaurants, and travel providers to provide frictionless, contextualized services and drive efficiency during a challenging workforce environment."
