Abstract

IDC Innovators are emerging vendors with revenue <$100 million that have demonstrated either a groundbreaking business model or an innovative new technology — or both. This IDC Innovators study profiles five companies for their innovative approach to virtual client computing (VCC): Cameyo, Flexxible, IGEL, Nerdio, and Virtual Cable.

The world of hybrid work relies on client virtualization to provide secure, stable, scalable access to enterprise resources. Meeting this challenge has created opportunities for companies ranging from stalwarts such as Citrix (an operating unit of Cloud Software Group), Microsoft, and VMware to new entrants taking new approaches. Cameyo, Flexxible, IGEL, Nerdio, and Virtual Cable were selected as IDC Innovators for 2023 based on their unique perspectives and how they inculcated those perspectives into effective products.

"Virtual client computing was a necessary but relatively stable part of the migration to hybrid working models," said Shannon Kalvar, research director, IT Service Management and Client Virtualization. "However, in the past year, a range of new approaches to virtualization, spanning the gambit from AIOps-oriented solutions to open source–based platforms, have emerged to challenge the status quo."
