Abstract

This IDC Survey presents a worldwide view of IT buyer 2024 spending expectations for digital infrastructure compute, storage, networking, and operational management resources deployed across the full range of dedicated, on premises, hosted and colocation sites, edge locations, managed services, and shared public cloud services. Collectively, across all categories of digital infrastructure, the majority of customers expect spending to increase or hold steady over the next year. The rate of spending increases planned for shared cloud services is over two-fold that expected for dedicated on-premises deployments.

Customers remain concerned about potential impacts from inflation and from staffing and skill shortages; however, digital business priorities, including GenAI initiatives, are helping protect infrastructure spending of potential budget reduction initiatives related to recession fears. Data in this survey report was collected as part of IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, Wave 10, in November 2023 and Wave 11 in December 2023. In each Wave, IDC asked over 880 IT decision-makers in North America, Asia/Pacific, and Western Europe to indicate how concerns about inflation, recession, skills shortages, GenAI, and other developments are affecting technology investments for 2024.
