Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight is based on IDC's August 2022 Worldwide Future of Operations Survey, which surveyed 1,372 organizations.

To successfully achieve remote operations, companies need to invest in cloud technology and wireless connectivity. According to the survey, the most significant barrier to the adoption of remote operations is the lack of reliable data and efficient access to the data. Companies looking to enable and improve remote operations must invest in creating a wireless network of connected devices. This is achieved by leveraging cloud technology, predictive analytics, 5G, wireless connectivity, and artificial intelligence.

"By adopting these technologies, companies can become more flexible within their industrial operations and can create a distributed network of industrial operations," said Carlos M. González, research manager of Operational Technology at IDC. "The pandemic has shifted how companies operate, and remote work not only is here to stay but allows companies to operate around the world and reach a large group of customers."
