Abstract

This IDC study quantifies the U.S. inkjet and toner cartridge market opportunity and provides ink and toner cartridge forecasts for the MFP and printer segments for 2018–2027. Forecasts include shipments, value of shipments, and ASV. Data for 2018–2022 is actual, whereas data for 2023–2027 is projected.

"Like the print hardware markets, the aftermarket ink and toner markets were disrupted by the spike in remote work and the slow return to the office. As workers return to the office, ink and toner purchases shift back toward higher-speed office devices. At the same time, the hybrid work model has permanently shifted a greater share of printing toward home devices. As the disruptions of a new work model subside, we expect the ink and toner market to settle into the slow decline typical of a mature market. Nevertheless, there are growth opportunities for print cartridges within certain segments. We expect the growing installed base of higher-priced inkjet and midrange A4 color laser MFPs to offer growth potential during the forecast period." — Geoffrey Wilbur, research manager, Imaging, Printing, and Document Solutions at IDC
