Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight examines retail consumer back-to-normal trends.
The pandemic has caused considerable consternation for shoppers, and slowly, but surely, shoppers have begun to return to pre-pandemic shopping patterns. While some shoppers have permanently changed how they shop, most have returned to prior shopping patterns, except for precautions such as wearing masks. At the same time, despite retailers expecting to match shopper behavior, most have been impacted by a series of other conditions unrelated to the pandemic, such as inflation, an overseas war, or a talent shortage. The discrepancy in consumer-retailer perceptions, plus low unemployment rates, will residually plague the retail market even as the pandemic ends.
