Abstract

This IDC study describes the organizational characteristics at five levels of artificial intelligence maturity, from a completely ad hoc approach with limited awareness to one in which artificial intelligence innovation strategy is woven into the organization's culture at every level. It is intended to help organizations evaluate current business transformation initiatives and identify the steps they need to take to advance to the next stage of maturity. Key stakeholders of artificial intelligence–based transformation initiatives include executives; IT leadership; line-of-business managers; legal, compliance and security officers; employees; partners; and suppliers.

"We have now entered the domain of AI-augmented work and decision across all the functional areas of a business. AI, machine learning, and NLP are changing the face of brands around the globe. AI disrupters will drive better customer engagements and have accelerated rates of innovation, higher competitiveness, higher margins, and superior employee experiences. Organizations worldwide must evaluate their vision and transform their people, processes, technology, business models, and data readiness to unleash the power of AI and thrive in the digital era," said Ritu Jyoti, group vice president, Artificial Intelligence and Automation Research at IDC.
