Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective contains excerpts from public financial disclosures by leading hardcopy vendors and details the impact of COVID-19 and supply chain issues on performance and forecasts.

"In the third quarter, print vendors began to recover from the additional supply shock that rippled through the supply chain after the spring COVID-19 lockdowns in China. On the whole, third quarter results showed softer progress than expected, boosted mostly by the weakened yen and strategic price increases. By the end of the quarter, component availability had returned, and many vendors were making headway on their order backlogs. Manufacturing output growth and large order backlogs have set the stage for fourth quarter growth. However, that anticipated growth could be dampened by risk factors that include geopolitical uncertainty, the increasing prospect of a global recession, and disruptions to the supply chain resulting from additional COVID-19 outbreaks." — Geoffrey Wilbur, research manager, Imaging, Printing, and Document Solutions at IDC
