Abstract

This IDC study describes the organizational characteristics at five levels of content-centric workflow maturity, from an ad hoc, highly manual approach to a fully optimized and automated state where human resources are freed to focus on innovation and value creation. This document is intended to help organizations evaluate current content-centric workflow infrastructure and capabilities and identifies the steps they need to take to advance to the next stage of maturity. Key stakeholders of content workflow initiatives include executives, IT leadership, line-of-business managers, employees, partners, and suppliers. This document updates and expands on the concepts presented in IDC MaturityScape: Content-Centric Workflow 1.0 (IDC #US41904417, December 2017).

"Content is a critical component for any business — and secure, agile access to all services around the content life cycle is crucial for hybrid work models and that workforce needs secure access to content anytime, anywhere, and on any device. And they need to be able to author, collaborate, edit, repurpose, review, route, approve, and publish content. They also need to be able to do all of this with a comparable experience, whether they are working in the office, at some other corporate site, on the road, from home, or from another remote location. If we are to effectively reimagine the FoW and employee experience, then that must include how content is created, accessed, and analyzed." — Steve Charbonnier, research manager, Enterprise Content Strategies
