Abstract
This IDC study focuses on three IT leaders and how they imbued and institutionalized agile and resilient behavioral characteristics directly into their IT organizations: how they absorbed the first disruptive blow of the pandemic, made quick decisions, and pivoted, cut cash, and kept going with highly adaptive planning. It also explores the agile governance methods and processes that are now helping them "bounce forward" to exploit opportunities in the new emerging markets. The following best practices to build resilience and agility into IT organizations are highlighted as organizations continue the battle against the next big disruption:
- Respond to disruption with digital resilience and agility.
- Promote agile adaptive planning and decision making to "bounce forward."
- Institutionalize resilience and agility through IT organization and governance practices.
"In many enterprises, those that have best endured can attribute their success to the CIOs and businesses that have been investing in a modernized IT infrastructure, organization, and culture," says Bob Multhaup, adjunct research advisor, IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "Together, these combine to create strategic business resilience and strategic business agility."
