Abstract
In February 2023, IDC surveyed 330 CIOs of large enterprises across META (Middle East, Turkey, Africa), 51 of which were in South Africa and 30 were elsewhere in sub-Saharan Africa. The survey was intended to gauge the market status of business and technology services, including growth expectations, frustrations and challenges, and selection criteria guiding service provider choice.
"Despite challenging market conditions in Africa, business and IT services spending continues to grow on the continent, although at a slower pace than elsewhere in META. Overall, the maturity of African markets is steadily increasing. More CIOs than ever are reporting strategic, organization-wide investments in transformation initiatives and digitally enabled services. Customers tell us they are actively investing in application modernization, infrastructure transformation, security, and cloud-related services. In South Africa and elsewhere in Sub-Saharan Africa, the shortage of local skills is a top concern and has led to frustration in finding suitable local partners. Growing customer expectations for advanced digital services will continue to create growth opportunities for service providers and their partners." — Associate Research Director Jonathan Tullett, IT Services & Cloud, IDC Sub-Saharan Africa
