Abstract
This IDC Market Presentation discusses organizations' strategies in "lifting and shifting" ERP applications from on-premises datacenters to infrastructure as a service, which has been a popular ERP modernization path for organizations. Moving existing applications to the cloud in this way has drawbacks though, such as the fact that deficiencies afflicting the system running on premises may be carried over in the new operating environment.
Now organizations are tackling an increasingly wide range of modernization activities as they move their ERPs to the cloud. IT service firms have been key in supporting these enhanced migrations that IDC has dubbed "lift and shift plus." During these migrations, tasks such as the cleansing of data and removal of customizations are performed, paving the way for further ERP modernization.
