Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation explains how global business services (GBS) organizations have evolved from shared services centers and how the next phase of their development represents an opportunity for software vendors.

GBS organizations have historically relied on low labor costs to achieve low processing costs, but this is now changing. Rising labor costs in what were previously low-cost locations around the world and rising automation levels across the enterprise mean GBS leaders must look to technology to drive further efficiency.

GBS organizations are well placed to take the lead in driving process digitization in the enterprise, but this will require investments in skills and technology. Investment in the modernization of GBS organizations represents an opportunity for application and automation vendors that understand the needs of this unique part of the enterprise.
