Abstract
This IDC Market Perspective covers key news and developments highlighted during Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona. MWC23, back at its pre-COVID-19 "buzz," showed an industry going through several transformations. Shaping the discussions were aspects such as cloud, co-funding for telco investments in Europe, the use of generative AI tools, open gateways and APIs, the metaverse, 5G, CX, and a strong focus on sustainability and energy efficiency.
"Despite the fact that seven massive exhibition halls were packed with infrastructure and solutions, fundamentally it is people — not networks — that make up the telecoms industry. It was great to see everybody back at this key industry event," said Chris Barnard, vice president, European Telecoms and Infrastructure at IDC.
