Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation discusses worldwide sentiment and takes a deeper dive to understand how European sentiment differs in relation to the following:

  • Level of difficulty in establishing strategy, vision, and culture for software innovation
  • The steps considered most important in delivering software innovation
  • The most important outcomes delivered through software innovation

IDC has published a framework for organizations to build a software innovation value engine (see The Future of Digital Innovation: To Win in Digital Business, Enterprises Must Innovate, IDC #US49450521, August 2022). In IDC's view, strategy, vision, and culture combine to form a foundation required to deliver such innovation on an ongoing basis.

"European organizations view digital innovation as the ability to add value, product/service innovation, and competitive differentiation versus using digital innovation for market disruption. Business value is realized but a risk-adverse attitude pervades in many. To accelerate success and build a strong innovation foundation, European organizations must address cultural and mindset change in parallel to embedding an organizationwide strategy," said Jennifer Thomson, AVP European Research.
