Hype or Virtual Reality? Mapping Telco Metaverse Strategies
Abstract
This IDC Web Conference discusses IDC research on what the metaverse means for telcos, what strategies telcos and their suppliers are taking, and what capabilities and milestones the telco industry must prepare for in the coming years.
The metaverse was a major talking point for telcos in 2022, and it is set to take center stage at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023. The metaverse enables a variety of visions of a futuristic, immersive internet experience that can blend and augment virtual and physical world interactions. The realization in full or in part of these visions will have a profound effect on telcos: by 2027, IDC predict 70% of network media traffic growth will be driven by metaverse-related content.
