Abstract
The Western European managed print and document services (MPDS) and basic print services (BPS) markets grew 4.0% and 0.1%, respectively. The return to growth was welcome after the dark days of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic and geopolitical market disruptions. The world is settling fully into hybrid work mode and organizations are looking to modernize their print infrastructure and implement cost-effective, fit-for-purpose, and secure printing practices in the face of digitization and declining print volumes. Print management contracts are essential and need to align with the new way that we work, share information, communicate, and print. Maturity in the enterprise space means that it will be difficult to achieve growth in that sector going forward. However, the SMB market is buoyant and growing, fueled by cloud enablement and the requirement to manage print and the printing infrastructure.
MPDS vendor shares remained relatively consistent from 2021 to 2022. As has been the case in recent years, vendors that have relied more heavily on the direct enterprise market are losing share to vendors driving net-new growth in the SMB space. We expect this trend to continue as the overall cost of directly selling MPDS to SMBs is decreasing due to cloud-enabled technology innovation. Nevertheless, the overall impact is minimal and market share positions remain relatively unchanged.
