Abstract

This IDC Web Conference Proceeding features the telecoms leads for the regions of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, who will discuss key trends and threats in the wider EMEA region. Chris Barnard (VP, Infrastructure and Communications, Europe) and Ahmad Latif Ali (Associate Vice President, Telecommunication Insights, EMEA) will look at the forces shaping the EMEA telecoms market in 2023 and beyond.

The telecommunications industry is constantly evolving, and 2023 is no exception. Some of the key trends to watch in the coming year include the continued rollout of fiber and 5G networks, the growing adoption rate of cloud-based services, and the accelerated evolution of telcos becoming TechCos by splitting vertically integrated operations. However, these advancements also bring new threats for the industry. The deployment of 5G networks is expected to be a major trend, but the biggest issue for telecom operators in 2023 will be the recessionary environment and coping with inflation, rising energy costs, and raised interest rates. Cloud-based services will continue to gain popularity, but the industry will have to deal with the challenges of data sovereignty and data protection. Transitioning to a TechCo is expected to provide a plethora of new opportunities for key industry players, but they will need to align closely with national and regional regulatory frameworks. Additionally, the industry will have an increasing focus on data privacy and security as technology continues to evolve and data usage becomes more widespread.
