Abstract
This IDC study explores how communications SPs (CSPs) can ride along the low earth orbit (LEO) satellite wave. LEO satellites provide broadband connectivity even in hard-to-reach areas and supports use cases that require lower latencies and higher bandwidth. This report delves into opportunities for collaboration between CSPs and LEO operators to bridge the digital divide and create new revenue streams for CSPs rather than see LEO operators as direct competition. The report looks at the drivers of LEO-based satellite connectivity, challenges, and use cases for CSPs to eventually guide CSPs and LEO operators to explore in Asia/Pacific.
"LEO-based satellite solutions will soon become a part of CSPs’ long-term goals as they can expand coverage and support high-capacity, low-latency applications across various industry verticals. They can also further enable CSPs to provide connectivity to remote and underserved areas and provide emergency connectivity in the event of a disaster. Nevertheless, CSPs understand the local market better and will serve as a valuable partner for LEO operators entering the market, which makes the alliance a win–win situation for both parties," says Swathi Arunaa, senior research analyst, IDC Asia/Pacific.
