Abstract

This IDC Market Perspective offers insights about the challenges, industry trends, and best practices of telecom firms driving digital innovation in Asia/Pacific. The digital-first concept is being embraced by telecom firms around the region for developing new products/services and enhancing existing ones by using technology, such as automation (DevOps, AIOps, and so on) and AI. According to IDC's 2022 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, Wave 10, 28.4% of Asia/Pacific telcos see market pressures as an opportunity to invest in digital innovation to drive growth, whereas 40.2% of them see no change in their approach to digital innovation in response to market pressures, such as inflation or supply chain constraints in the previous 12 months. The adoption of emerging technologies, such as 5G, AI, and Internet of Things (IoT), is a significant component of the transition from telco to tech company. Another crucial road to industry transformation is the extension of the life of legacy systems and application modernization using open application programming interfaces (APIs) and techniques, such as DevOps and AIOps.

"As the need for faster application delivery to users over a broader geographic region grows, it is expected that the market for DevOps services and solutions will dramatically expand among telcos in the next few years. In light of the shift to 5G networks, telco vendors and operators are moving toward alternative DevOps practices to enhance competitiveness, reduce delivery cycles, and offer a better customer experience," says Dhiraj Badgujar, senior research manager, IDC Asia/Pacific Future of Digital Innovation Practice and DevOps Program.
