Abstract

This IDC Perspective presents a high-level view into the unicorn journey of digital-native businesses (DNBs) in Asia/Pacific. The unicorn status is revered within the DNB ecosystem, but the journey to achieve this standing is not an easy one. There are key characteristics of successful DNBs and multiple stages in the unicorn journey, which if emulated or studied, will help guide DNBs in their road toward success. Despite the storms of disruption that DNBs are facing, unicorns will continue to be minted and impact the Asia/Pacific ecosystem.

"The journey to a unicorn status is not an easy one. However, by studying the best practices of incumbent unicorns, DNBs can set themselves up for long-term success. By understanding the unicorn journey, technology vendors can support DNBs with the right approach at different stages of maturity, growing and innovating with their DNB customers," said Seng Keong Low, research director, IDC Asia/Pacific.
