Abstract
This IDC report covers selected projects from Asia/Pacific countries that utilize sustainable infrastructure. Inadequate urban infrastructure makes cities particularly susceptible to natural disasters, and the United Nations estimates that climate change was a contributing factor in over 91% of the 7,255 significant disasters that occurred between 1998 and 2017.
Technology as an enabler of enhanced infrastructure that delivers better outcomes can help planners and developers tailor the delivery of infrastructure systems to meet the needs of communities. Case in point is the construction sector, which is being upended by building information modeling (BIM) and 3D printing, and digital twin technology could completely change how buildings are designed and maintained.
"Aside from being a disruptive technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), will all have far-reaching effects on infrastructure. When sufficient information is collected, smart infrastructure can be utilized to help obtain insight for the future, which can then be used to predict future calamities, enabling preventative steps to be done,"says Jezamin Abdul Razak, Head of Government Insights, IDC ASEAN.
