Abstract

This IDC Web Conference examines how to build a foundation for future generative AI (GenAI) jobs.

In the CIO's Future of Work Summit, February 2024, IDC discussed how job roles and skills are changing and what generative AI means for leaders. And with all the announcements around GenAI in 2023, leaders are wondering exactly how to plan for the future of work. Some of the business areas and use cases where GenAI will have the most impact in 2024 remain software development, product development process, customer engagement, and internal functions such as marketing, sales, HR, and finance. From a use case perspective, knowledge management is a leading area where GenAI can offer high degrees of productivity for employees.

However, there are many guardrails needed for these technologies to function well and for data privacy when using public large language models. This governance will be critical to getting the best value from automation and GenAI moving forward.
