Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight primarily assesses the responses to a question about whether U.S. gamers had quit a video game in 2024 due to being cyberbullied by another player. Overall, we found the "quit rate" was surprisingly high, at 16%. Given the political season and the politically charged coverage that swirled around #gamergate in 2015, we also break down the "quit rate" by political affiliation, gender, and race. These results were based on IDC's 3Q24 U.S. Gamer Survey (n = 6,128).
Curiously, we found that third-party voters were more likely to have quit a game than were Republicans, Democrats, or independent voters. Perhaps unsurprisingly, we found evidence that minority communities and the LGBTQ+ community were more likely to have quit a game due to cyberbullying.
