Abstract

This IDC Survey draws on data from IDC's 2024 Human Capital Management Survey, highlighting responses from 512 professionals across the North America region. It captures detailed insights from HR, IT, and line-of-business leaders about the use, trends, challenges, and future for HR systems and services in their organizations. The survey targets professionals responsible for selecting and managing HR systems to understand the impact of these systems on talent acquisition, core HR processes, payroll, and employee experience, and AI adoption and its implications with the HCM ecosystem.

Most leaders plan to retain their existing HCM solution. However, in case of a vendor change or upgrade, better UX and additional features are key. Leaders seek more integration capabilities, analytics and automation features, and enhanced security. About 75% of companies are already using or have plans to use AI in HR within 12–18 months. GenAI-powered HR solutions are expanding, in areas such as analytics, reporting, documentation, and communications.

"HR leaders expect HCM solutions to offer comprehensive reporting and integration with key functional applications," said Amy Loomis, research vice president, Future of Work at IDC. "Embedded AI and GenAI are increasingly core to core HR solutions supporting short- and long-term business outcomes."
