Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation is an analysis of the field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) market and an updated forecast for the FPGA market. The FPGA market covers wireless, wired, datacenter, auto, and embedded/IoT markets. FPGAs are an implementation option to build a product as an alternative to processors, merchant silicon, and custom application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs).

Field-programmable gate arrays are semiconductor devices that can be programmed after manufacturing to perform specific tasks. Unlike traditional ASICs, which have a fixed architecture, and processors that run software, FPGAs consist of an array of programmable logic blocks and interconnects that can be configured to implement custom hardware functionality. FPGAs offer a combination of flexibility, performance, and low latency, making them valuable for applications that demand custom hardware solutions and high levels of parallel processing.

In late 2022 and early 2023, the FPGA market went through a bubble that is correcting itself in 2024. This covers FPGA market's historical data and a market forecast.
