Abstract
This IDC Market Presentation provides findings from IDC’s 2024 Managed Cloud View Survey. It also provides a detailed analysis of the value that enterprises and organizations have experienced in using the five major public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google, IBM, Alibaba) as part of managed cloud services engagements in which managed SPs are managing different types of hardware and software assets that are hosted on or procured from these public cloud provider platforms on behalf of their clients. The survey utilized for this study was deployed worldwide and involved polling 1,514 end users to collect information on adoption of managed cloud services by enterprises and organizations with 1,000+ employees.
This document provides in-depth assessments across three key areas of value that include the benefits, challenges, and strengths of these five public cloud providers as partners to managed SPs involving six different countries, multiple industries, and firm sizes. This document begins with an executive summary that provides key messages in optimizing use of public cloud provider partnerships with managed SPs as part of managed cloud services, top research highlights and findings, and essential guidance for managed SPs. This document then provides an in-depth analysis of enterprise and organization experiences as defined by their assessment of the benefits, challenges, and strengths of the public cloud providers that firms have utilized as part of these services. It further provides two different means of viewing these experiences with one section segmenting the analysis by value (benefits, challenges, strengths) and how each of five public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google, IBM, Alibaba) compare across these values and a second section segmenting the analysis by each of these five public cloud providers for which each of these public cloud providers are analyzed by the three values of benefits, challenges, and strengths.
"This IDC Market Presentation provides insight into the value (benefits, challenges, strengths) of five major public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google, IBM, Alibaba) as experienced by customers when utilized as part of engagements in which managed SPs are managing hardware and/or software assets that are hosted on or procured from these public cloud providers and their platforms on behalf of their clients. This document also provides a framework by which managed SPs can pursue opportunities in working with public cloud providers as part of delivering managed cloud services that involves optimizing the value of each public cloud provider based on the benefits, challenges, and strengths of these providers; supporting critical areas that are centered on relationships, knowledge and talent, financial factors, operational efficiencies, and portfolio of offerings; implementing matrix management that integrates a value matrix with a cloud matrix; utilizing multicloud operations; and incorporating a multicloud management platform that supports all cloud and IT resources," said David Tapper, VP, Outsourcing and Managed Cloud Services, at IDC.
