Abstract

This IDC study presents a forecast for IDC's Global StorageSphere for the 2024–2028 period. It measures the size of the installed base of storage capacity, storage utilization (or data stored), and the amount of storage available each year. The Global StorageSphere is forecast by region, storage media type, consumer or enterprise managed, location (core, edge, and endpoint), system type or application, and cloud or noncloud.

"While current storage capacities are sufficient for today's data generation needs, rapid advancements in AI and the expected surge in data volumes in the coming years require proactive planning to ensure that future demands are met," says Adam Wright, research manager for IDC's Global DataSphere. "Investing in scalable and efficient storage solutions now is crucial to staying ahead of this impending data surge, not just for storing more data as it's produced but also for creating improvements to storage technologies that are necessary for generation of data in the first place."
