Abstract

This IDC Survey highlights the features that are most important to users in their security information and event management (SIEM) platform. The data comes from IDC's January 2024 Worldwide Views on SIEM Survey, which was answered by 1,004 respondents in 17 countries. The data is presented by region, size of organization, industry, and internally managed versus co-managed SOC.

A real-time detection engine is the most important feature to many users because alerting security teams to potential attacks is one of the paramount use cases of the SIEM. Attacks that used to take days to unfold now take hours, so security analysts need to see the signs instantaneously. For many of the groups surveyed, vendor-provided connectors to the data sources they want to ingest is the second most important feature. They have neither the time nor the resources to do the work themselves.
