Abstract
This IDC Market Perspective provides a preliminary unit shipment range for worldwide hard disk drive (HDD) units by HDD drive class and estimated supplier market share for 1Q24.
"HDD demand has come back strongly in the first quarter of 2024, and this shows signs of continuing over the next couple of quarters," according to Ed Burns, research director, Worldwide Hard Disk Drives at IDC. "It appears likely that the limiting factor for upside over the coming quarters in 2024 may be the pace at which the industry will turn supply back on after idling manufacturing capacity during the inventory glut over the past 18 months. And much of this is dependent on the lead time provided by customers in terms of their orders."
