This IDC Market Glance is focused on the technologies and services necessary to manage the life cycle of industrial operational data. Industrial data life-cycle management has been a scattered approach over the past decade, most often involving custom data cleansing and integration utilizing a variety of non-purpose-built tools. Today, a more common architectural approach and an emerging set of purpose-built tools are bringing clarity and scalability to this integral process. If industrial enterprises aim to utilize operational data ubiquitously at scale, these capabilities are now essential. "A host of approaches have been taken over the years," says Jonathan Lang, research director for IDC Operations Insights.
