Abstract

This IDC Survey provides a perspective of how ransomware evolves over time, leveraging IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Longitudinal Survey. This IDC Survey is IDC's fifth deep dive into the topic of ransomware. IT leaders face an array of conflicting challenges in 2024 as they develop IT budgeting plans that anticipate potential economic disruptions while maintaining the shift to digital business models. Key findings include:

  • Ransomware attackers are getting more effective at finding valuable data.
  • SIEM is the most common tool to detect ransomware attackers before the launch of malware.
  • Even with backups, ransomware affected organizations may still pay the ransom.
  • Organizations are confident in the policies covering the expenses for which they have insured. The reality may be incongruent with that belief though.
