Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight analyzes results from IDC's annual U.S. Enterprise Mobility Decision Maker Survey: Devices, conducted in June 2023 among 525 enterprise mobility decision-makers in the United States.
In 2023, mobile hardware spending accounted for 36% of annual mobility budgets among U.S. enterprises, and IT decision-makers estimate they spend significantly more per iOS device than Android device when purchasing corporate-liable smartphones for employees. One would assume the added cost of iOS devices would translate to extended refresh cycles compared with Android, but this is not the case, according to IT departments. U.S. businesses report that Android devices cost less than iOS devices and are deployed for longer periods of time. As enterprises look to extend device refresh cycles beyond three years in an effort to maximize their IT budgets, corporate-liable smartphones that cost more are not contributing to longer deployment times.
This IDC Survey Spotlight highlights the relationship between the cost of corporate-liable smartphone and average device refresh rates across different device programs among U.S. enterprises.
