"Organizations may be tempted to invest in cloud computing in order to gain flexibility, scalability, and even security," says David Weldon, adjunct research advisor with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "They may assume that a cloud service provider will take care of everything and operational costs will be reduced in the process. But achieving new efficiencies and cost savings will largely depend on the firm's practices for creating, storing, and moving data in the first place, as well as understanding how to measure ROI effectively."
