Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation uses IDC's Digital Business Scorecard analysis to examine which industries would qualify as leading, enhancing, developing, or nascent in key digital business capabilities. In IDC's Digital Business Scorecard study, we found that just 11% of organizations possess leading digital business capabilities, while most are either in the developing or enhancing stages of their digital journeys. When digging into specific industries, we see that there are variances in the distribution of capabilities. Some industries have more leaders, while other industries have more nascent digital businesses.

We look at how industries are performing in digital business models, data, operational processes, and organization. We examine the industries with the largest samples in our data set, including construction, financial services, banking and credit, healthcare, discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, retail trade, and software and IT services.

We identify those industries that are leading the shift to the digital business era, and others that are still working to build digital business foundations, while providing recommendations for technology suppliers and technology buyers.
