Abstract

This IDC Survey primarily summarizes the findings of IDC's 3Q23 U.S. Gamer Survey as it relates to engagement and satisfaction among Windows PC, Apple Mac, and Linux/GNU system gamers. The factors that influenced PC hardware buying decisions in 4Q23 are assessed for leading brands and OEMs. Demographics and spending levels of PC gamers are also compared/contrasted.

The gaming brands that are assessed in the presentation include Acer Predator, Dell Alienware, G Series, and Inspiron (grouped) and HP Omen and Pavilion (grouped). The nongaming or mainstream PC segments assessed include Acer, Dell, and HP Inc. One other grouped segment is assessed: self-built system users and other gaming-branded system users (which combines the results of ASUS ROG, CyberPower PC, Lenovo Y Series and Legion, and MSI gamers).

"There was great diversity in the PC, Mac, and Linux/GNU gamer landscape late last year in the United States. While Predator gamers were the most satisfied with their systems, Apple gamers have surprisingly strong showings in certain areas and gaming-branded Dell and HP Inc. series users also showed up near or at the top of the market in select metrics." — Lewis Ward, IDC's research director of Gaming, Esports, and VR/AR
